You are in the right spot! Learn how easy it is to make cold process soap using the Beekeeper's Wife Maker's Blends and things you have around the house.

Please be sure and have a basic understanding of soap making and lye safety before beginning.

If you would like to view a video of cold process soap making, you can go there now: How to make soap with the Maker's Blend.

This is created for beginners (or anyone who wants to test the blend before purchasing larger sizes)

Get the kit here
What's included in the box:
  • 32 oz. Beekeeper’s Wife Soap Blend
  • 1 Silicone Spatula
  • 1 pair disposable gloves
  • The box it comes in serves as the mold!
  • 1 popsicle stick for stirring color, swirling and texturing.

What you’ll need:
  • You can view this Checklist before gathering up your supplies
  • Mixing Bowl | Scale | Stick Blender or Whisk | Goggles
  • 4.5 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye (You can get it from Ace Hardware plumbing department. Make sure it is 99% pure sodium hydroxide.)
  • 6.7 oz. Distilled Water or Ice
  • Butcher or parchment paper to line the box. Watch this video to see how I learned to line a mold https://youtu.be/7vU68RqnFEI
  • Optional
    • 1 oz. Fragrance/Essential Oil
    • Any skin safe colorant

This batch is calculated for a water to lye ratio of 1.5:1 and 5% super fat.

These steps are basic and beginner friendly.

VERY IMPORTANT: If the soap blend mix is not clear, warm it until it’s completely clear. Pour into your soaping bowl and make sure you get as much of the mix out of the container as possible.

Hint: place the pouch in a bowl of hot water to ensure it is completely melted before opening. DO NOT microwave the pouch.

FRAGRANCE PREP: In a glass container, measure 1.6 ounces of Fragrance Oil and set aside. Always check safe usage rates for the oils you choose to use. This amount is a guide only. All fragrances are NOT created equal. Do not use food extracts for soap!

Goggles, Gloves and long sleeves on for SAFETY!!

  1. Slowly and carefully add 4.5 ounces of lye to 6.7 ounces of distilled water. I use a stainless-steel milk frothier for my lye solution. Gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved. You can also use the ICE method. Weigh out your ice just like you would the water. It will melt and just make sure you stir and dissolve the lye completely.
  2. Once the lye and oils are room temperature or between 80-100 degrees, slowly add the lye water to the oils. Blend until your oils are emulsified. (no free oil floating on top and the bell of the stick blender (or whisk) remains coated with soap)
  3. Add the fragrance oil. Add any colorant you want to use. Tip- mix colorant in with fragrance if you are not making multiple colors.
  4. Stir or whisk everything in thoroughly until you achieve light trace.  Be careful with stick blending at this point so you don’t accelerate your batter. Know what trace looks like before starting and go slow to remain in control of it.
  5. Gently pour or spoon the batter into the box (or mold if you have one).
  6. Now for the fun part! Decorate the top of your soap with texture, botanicals, swirls or even bio glitter.
  7. Insulate and cover the loaf for 18-24 hours –The fragrance you choose can affect gel phase so keep a close eye on it and uncover if overheating begins to occur.
  8. Unmold and cut into bars then let them cure for 4-6 weeks for a hard and long-lasting soap.

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the process!
