Makers Blend FAQ

Welcome to the world of Maker's Blends by the Beekeeper's Wife.

Whether you are new to soap making or an experienced soap maker, these blends are designed to simplify your process and elevate your creations. By using our carefully formulated blends, you can focus on the creative aspects of soap making without the hassle of formulating, buying, weighing, and storing multiple ingredients.

Each batch can vary based on factors such as temperature, colorants, fragrances, and essential oils, so we recommend starting with a small batch to understand how the blend behaves in your environment.

Here are some FAQs to help get you started:

Q: It is cold where I am and the blend is solid or has solids in it. What do I do?

A: Place the container in a bucket of hot water. It should become fully liquid within approx. 20 min. Do not place 32 oz pouches in the microwave.

Q: I love your blend, but I am an experienced soap maker and just want to use your recipe. Do you sell the recipe only?

A: The purpose of the Maker's Blends is to simplify your soap making process by providing an exceptional recipe that is already master batched for you. You get to focus on creativity and not formulating, buying, weighing and storing multiple ingredients.  Time is money. The price of a jug of blend includes each ingredient, the time spent formulating, testing, buying and weighing. When you buy it pre blended, you get to take advantage of our bulk pricing.  These blends are the same blends I use in my own soap making, so you can feel confident using a tried-and-true recipe that customers love. When comparing costs, be sure and think about the free shipping and time savings. Also, you always have exactly the right amount of each ingredient since it is already master batched.

Q: How do I label the soaps I make using the blends?

A: Both blends are Palm Free, Vegan, Non-GMO and never tested on animals. All ingredients are food grade.

Mango Blend: Rice Bran Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Mango Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Castor Oil.

Cocoa Blend: Rice Bran Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Cocoa Butter, Avocado Oil, Castor Oil.

Since I use coconut milk, it goes after the butter and fragrance/essential oil would be at the end before the colorants. If you need help with special additives or customization, send me an email. I am happy to assist.

Q: What is the SAP value and the Sat/Unsat values for the Maker's Blends?

A: Both Blends have the same SAP value of 0.13.

The Sat/Unsat value for the Mango blend is 41:59 and the Cocoa Blend is 43:57.

Q: I have a specific mold size I use. How do I know how much blend and lye/water for that?

A: That is how I use this calculator! Just go to the 2nd tab, Batch Size Calculator, and enter your desired batch size in step 1 then press tab to see how much lye and water to use.

Q: I usually use Soap Calc to figure out my batches. How do I know how much Lye to use?

A: Since this is a pre formulated and measured blend, there is no need for soap calc to tell you how much lye or water to use. Just enter the amount of oil you want to use for your desired batch into the included calculator and press tab to reveal how much lye and water to use.

Q: Do these blends work for swirling?

A: Both blends have fantastic trace behavior. Know what emulsion is and refrain from stick blending too much for techniques that need more time. Consider using 2:1 water to lye ration and a decelerating fragrance or essential oil. Also be careful with colorants and clays as some can accelerate your trace.

Q: I want to be able to add my own ingredients to the blends to make my own recipe. How can I do that?

A: Go to the 3rd tab, Customizer, follow the instructions and fill in steps 1-3 then press tab. You can add other butters, and specialty oils to create your own signature recipe. Bear in mind that you will want to refrain from adding too many regular oils or the same oils that are already included to ensure the recipe is successful. If you have questions, or want to add something at more than 10%, please reach out for assistance. We will be glad to work through it with you.

Q: Can I add goat milk, aloe juice or other liquids with these blends?

A: Yes! The blends work amazingly with additional liquids. I personally use coconut milk in all my batches. I recommend using the 50/50 lye/water method then adding the additional liquid to make it 2:1. Lye dissolves best in water and your milks and other liquids are changed if you add lye to them. I do not recommend that method, but I know a lot of soap makers do add lye to their milk, beer and juices, so it isn't wrong.  I just personally don't feel it is best. Even when milk is frozen, the properties are changed, and they can still scorch.  For coconut milk, I use 1.5:1 lye water and then add the coconut milk at emulsion at 1 oz per pound of oil. You could also do that with any other milk if you wanted to.

Q: It sounds too good to be true. Is it as easy as 1,2,3?

A: Absolutely! You literally just enter your batch size in step 1 then press tab. You will be shown the lye amount and water amount to make a batch of soap. When you want to customize, it is only 3 steps. All the work has been done for you so you can spend your time creating! Thousands of jugs have gone out across the USA and both blends are 5 star rated.
